What benefits will I get as a member?
Networking
The DPA is the central forum within our industry where individuals
can meet and exchange ideas with other directory and database publishers,
and suppliers. Regular events in the DPA calendar include;
- Annual Conference - where we debates current hot topics;
- Annual Awards - recognising and celebrating industry achievements;
- New Year Drinks Reception - giving members the opportunity to get together informally.
Representation
The DPA is the only organisation that represents the interests of bona-fide
UK directory and data publishers to government and the wider business community. It is involved with a
number of legal representations, such as the Unsolicited Goods and Services Act and EU directives on
databases.
Communications
A monthly newsletter informs our members about the latest news and developments
in the data publishing industry. The newsletter covers four key areas; DPA news, industry news, legal &
public affairs, and events & training.

Training and Seminars
As part of our commitment to improve best practice within the industry,
the DPA organises a number of training courses and seminars each year. These cover practical topics, as
well as issues of current interest and concern to the industry, such as legal updates and information about
new technologies.
Upcoming training and seminars
Publicity and Promotion
The DPA's remit is to promote both its members' activities and the
industry as a whole. This is achieved through a variety of activities and events. Details of our members
and their products and services are included in this site and published in an annual handbook. We enjoy
representation at events hosted by our affiliated associations such as the PPA and the EADP. Our annual
conference promotes the data publishing industry as well as looking at relevant topics in depth. And our
annual awards recognise and celebrate the best companies in data publishing.
Statistics
Periodically, the DPA carries out its own business performance and employment
research as well as participating in the collection of directory and database advertising statistics for
the Advertising Association's Survey of Advertising Expenditure.
Business Support Helpline
We provide our members with a free, business support helpline,
offering advice on issues such as tax, VAT, health & safety and employment.
