DPA Conference 2009: Highlights from the day

News

29 Oct 2009

“Each year it gets bigger, more relevant and better value”. That was one typical delegate response to last week’s Annual DPA Conference.

The day opened with Outsell’s David Worlock chairing a debate to examine Government’s attitudes to the digital publishing sector. Is there the will, the policy and the funding to drive growth and create a truly dynamic sector? David Hendon, senior director at the Department of Business Innovation and Skills put the Government’s case, with Incisive’s Tim Weller and Oxford Analytica’s Alfred Rolington responding for the publishers.

The conference ran in two streams, delegates choosing between strategic and practitioner sessions. One of the morning highlights was Danny Meadows-Klue’s whirlwind tour of developments on the web that will shape tomorrow’s data businesses. Danny is a true web pioneer, taking the Daily Telegraph online in the early ‘90s.

Meanwhile, in the Practitioner stream, delegates were being offered 100 tips to tune their businesses, either to fend off recession or gear up for recovery. Then in the afternoon, Site Visibility, held a master class to help delegates plot their own SEO strategies.

Video highlights of both conference and awards will shortly be available on the DPA website.
